Tips to Make Life Easier in Your Purée Prep Kitchen
Always have a supply of liquids on hand! Milk, Cream, Half & Half, Stocks–whatever you prefer to use.
Bechamel Sauce (AKA White Sauce) is your best friend! You can quickly flavor it with whatever you like to make a sauce or soup, and it can be used to bind puréed vegetables, meats, etc.
Another friend is some type of food thickener. This site, Dysphagia Diet, lists a few. I’ve used Thickit with good results, but you should consult your physician, swallowing therapist, or dietician to find the one that is right for the person you are feeding.
Make more and freeze it in one portion sizes! I find that 4 oz. containers are about right for side dishes.
